THE BARN

The barn at New York farm was built circa 1876 and had three distinct sections: a shed to house a two wheeled gig (carriage); and two stables each with two stalls for the farm’s ponies. The upper floor, was probably the hayloft where hay was stored for the winter feed. As the barn was built into the hillside, the lower area of the barn housed the farm’s pigs.

In use as an agricultural building until the early 1990’s, the upper barn was converted into an artists’ studio, whilst the lower sheds became a coal and wood store. In 2018 it was lovingly converted into two, one-bedroom apartments.
